Romanian businessman Dinu Patriciu on Friday won a lawsuit against the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), which must pay him moral damages of 50,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2493) for illegal phone call tapping.
The decision of the High Court of Justice is definitive and
supports a decision ruled previously by the Bucharest Court.
Patriciu's lawyers started legal proceeding against the SRI in
mid-February 2007, when they filed a complaint with the Bucharest
Court, accusing the institution of having broken the businessman's
right to privacy.
On May 11, 2007, the Court decided that the accusation was
grounded and obligated the SRI to pay moral damage of
RON50,000.
The ruling was challenged with the Bucharest Court of Appeals,
which maintained the decision of the lower court, and afterward
with the High Court of Justice.
