Version 3.1 includes genius mixes, genius recommendations for apps, peer-to-peer gaming, spotlight search, A2DP Bluetooth stereo and a whole bunch of fixes. Of course, if you haven’t made the jump to a 3.x release at all yet there has never been a better time to do so – the major 3.0 update added copy and paste, a landscape keyboard and much more. You can read more about the update at the Apple site and purchase the update itself from within iTunes. Now, while the price drop is undoubtedly a good thing, many Apple critics argue (quite rightly in my opinion) that the update should not be chargeable in the first place. A number of the features in the new release actually have the potential to increase Apple’s revenue from the device (such as genius recommendations for apps), so arguably it would be in Apple’s interest to make the update completely free. I didn’t experience any of the strange glitches I had when trying to play back audio files or browse folders that I did with the alpha build. Fresh Unite installs include basic file sharing, photo sharing, media player, messenger (lets you IM your Opera friends), lounge (chat room), the fridge (a message board), and web server. User created services have started appearing as well. Some that you might find useful include the Uploader and Document Courier – both of which allow others to send files to your system – and a streaming media server. There’s also a Unite-powered OpenID provider you can install if you want to serve your own identity URL. You can grab the new Unite beta from Softpedia (click the External Mirror – Beta 1 link), and get the additional services straight from Opera. It consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for various firewall platforms. Firewall Builder uses object-oriented approach, it helps administrator maintain a database of network objects and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. Firewall Builder currently supports iptables, ipfilter, OpenBSD PF as well as Cisco PIX and Cisco IOS extended access lists. Being truly vendor-neutral, Firewall Builder can generate configuration file for any supported target firewall platform from the same policy created in its GUI. This provides for both consistent policy management solution for heterogeneous environments and possible migration path.Policy compiler for PIX, which recently has been released under GPL, allows Firewall Builder to function as a sophisticated policy management software for Cisco PIX firewall with access to all functions of PIX including newest features added in v7.x. Policy compiler for Cisco IOS Access Lists adds support for router access lists and turns Firewall Builder into complete solution for the multi-tiered network security. Firewall Builder allows for management of multiple firewalls using the same network object database.
